The continent that wraps around the mediterranean-like Sea of Tirento was once home to colossal empires who vied with each other over the land and seas natural resources. After millennia of grinding warfare, sacking after sacking, razing after razing; all that’s left of these giants are their skeletal city ruins and their legacy of environmental destruction, the ash-filled ‘Wilderlands’ and cursed ‘Shadow Waters’. Nowadays, new nations have risen from the old their economies based on sea trade.
First is The Western Kingdom, its influence stretches all along the western coast of the continent. With large bustling cities and ports strewn all across the coast, The Western Kingdom is the greatest military power in the Sea of Tirento. Their Navy is formidable enough, but their crowning achievement is the West Wall after which their Kingdom is named. A titanic stone wall spans the channel between Dockton and Songard. Without proper clearance reaching the capital by sea is believed to be impossible.
Then we have Tirento, the island that gives the sea its name. The Tirentese are fabulous merchants, by virtue of the island’s central location. They trade profusely with their semi-autonomous colonies on the mainland, as well as the Western Kingdom. As a society, they have a strong focus on opulence and wealth, something that is reflected in their elaborate architecture and obsession with exotica. While slavery is illegal on Tirento itself, some of its colonies make a living from the international slave trade.
Below the waves of the Sea of Tirento lie the the Clans of the Aquatic Elves. Their cities are known to exist all along the shallow waters of The Shadow Prominence. While the Elves prefer isolation they do a fair bit of trade with the Western Kingdom, and Tirento.
